SCIENTIFIC AND ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE
Pulse Power Department
The Pulse Power Department originated from the Pulse Power Laboratory established earlier at the Institute of Atmospheric Optics SB RAS at once it was founded. The head of laboratory and presently of the department is Academician Boris Koval'chuk. At present time, 2 Doctors of Science, 4 Candidates of Science, and 1 post-graduate work at the Department.
Basic scientific achievements
Pulse power technologies and production of dense electron and ion beams.
In the field of development and research of power high-current switches:
Based on gas discharge research data, spark gaps for superpower pulse generators have been designed.
- Spark gaps for switching in Marx generators with voltage of ± 100 kV at current ratings of ~ 150 кА.
- Spark gaps for linear transformers with voltage of ~ 100 kV and above and current ratings of 700 kA.
- Trigitron current spark gaps with voltage of ~ 3 MV with nanosecond switching accuracy.
- Multichannel spark gaps rated up to ~ 6,0 MV.
In the field of development of generators for experimental electrophysical facilities:
- An electron accelerator "Gamma" of electron energy of up to 2,5 MeV at pulse duration of 1 ms and e-beam stored energy of ~ 100 kJ have been created.
- Pulsed power generators GIT-4 and GIT-12 with circuit currents of 3 and 6 MA, correspondingly, and output voltage of ~ 700 kV have been built.
- A 5-MA generator with ~ 0,5 ms circuit current rise time has been manufactured.
- A number of stages for linear transformers with energy storage of 1-32 kJ, minimum current time of 0,1-1 ms, and output voltage of up to 100 kV have been developed.
The electrophysical units and devices recently developed at the Department allow:
- To generate superpower microwave radiation and to supply power for plasma immersion ion implantation equipment.
- To perform a number of studies on plasma current interrupters development.
- To study non-self-sustained discharge controlled by accelerated e-beam.
- To create pulsed СО2 lasers LAD-1 and LAD-2 with pulsed energy of 0,5 and 7 kJ, correspondingly.
- To manufacture excimer lasers with pulse energy of ~ 2 kJ.
- To conduct the works at the Institute devoted to creation of ultrawideband generators.
